Company Profile

Decton Iron Works, Inc. is proud to be numbered among the few United States manufacturers of quality woodwaste-to-energy systems focused squarely toward small and medium sized businesses who have high energy and waste disposal costs.

Decton Iron Works, Inc. was founded in 1974.  By 1976 we had developed a residential wood burning furnace line.  Even at that time (before all of the regulations), burning clean was our objective.  After five years of research we patented our secondary air injection device called ThermoCombustor.

The oil shortage of the late seventies created a demand on us from industry to manufacture larger wood and wood waste furnaces.  Industry was obviously feeling the "pinch" with the increased cost of heating.  We developed a 300,000 Btu/hour unit that sold very well to a wide variety of businesses for heating everything from loading dock areas of large buildings to providing total heat in wood cabinet shops and green houses.  Most systems provided heat while others were used simply to "get rid" of the scrap.

Most furnace owners liked the savings in heating costs but eventually realized that some of the savings were lost to the increased labor costs of hand firing a furnace.  To address this the Decton automatic feed stoker system was developed to replace hand firing.

Since automation has become an important part of wood burning, we have worked to refine and streamline complete systems and their controls.  As a result, modern system can be depended upon to do their job with minimum maintenance 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.

As Decton's reputation for high quality waste-to-energy systems grew, so did the requests for even larger systems and broader applications.  This demand lead us to expand our line to include hot water and steam boilers up to 4 million Btu/hour.

As for the future, Decton will keep working to help the small businessman and entrepreneur, as well as large companies realize that:

Burning wood as an alternative energy source is flexible, fiscally responsible, and environmentally safe.
